Analysis Of Faults Affecting Service Life Of Cylindrical Roller Bearings

2023-09-22

The metallurgical quality of bearing materials used to be the main factor affecting the early failure of rolling bearings. With the advancement of metallurgical technology (such as vacuum degassing of bearing steel, etc.), the quality of raw materials has improved. The proportion of raw material quality factors in the failure analysis of cylindrical roller bearings has dropped significantly, but it is still one of the main factors affecting bearing failure. Proper material selection is still a factor that must be considered in bearing failure analysis.
1. Corrosion of the tile surface: Spectral analysis found that the concentration of non-ferrous metal elements was abnormal; many sub-micron wear particles of non-ferrous metal components appeared in the ferrogram; the moisture content and acid value of the lubricating oil exceeded the standard.
2. Corrosion on the surface of the journal: Spectral analysis found that the concentration of iron elements was abnormal. There were many submicron particles of iron in the ferrogram, and the moisture content or acid value of the lubricating oil exceeded the standard.
3. The surface of the journal is strained: there are iron-based cutting abrasive particles or black oxide particles in the ferrogram, and there is tempering color on the metal surface.
4. Fretting wear of tile back: Spectral analysis found that the concentration of iron was abnormal, and there were many submicron wear particles of iron components in the ferrogram, and the moisture and acid value of lubricating oil were abnormal.
5. Bearing surface strain: cutting abrasive grains are found in the ferrogram, and the abrasive grains are composed of non-ferrous metals.

6. Tile surface spalling: Many large-sized fatigue spalling alloy wear particles and layered abrasive particles were found in the ferrogram.
7. Bearing burnt tiles: There are many large-sized alloy abrasive grains and black metal oxides in the ferrogram.
The manufacture of bearings generally goes through multiple processing procedures such as forging, heat treatment, turning, grinding and assembly. The rationality, advancement and stability of each processing technology will also affect the life of cylindrical roller bearings. Among them, the heat treatment and grinding processes that affect the quality of the finished bearing are often more directly related to the failure of the bearing. In recent years, the research on the metamorphic layer of the working surface of the bearing shows that the grinding process is closely related to the quality of the bearing surface.
The main task of bearing service life analysis is to find out the main factors causing bearing failure based on a large number of background materials, analysis data and failure forms, so as to propose improvement measures in a targeted manner, prolong the service life of cylindrical roller bearings, and avoid bearing failure. Sudden early failure occurs.
