How to disassemble the bearing correctly?

2023-07-12

What is the main method of disassembling the bearing?

1. Use hand or hydraulic

2. Use a special wrench

3. Use extractor

4. Use induction heating equipment (inner ring)

5. Use oiling method

How to select different tools for disassembly?

Examples in different scenarios

1Remove the bearing mounted on the cylindrical shaft diameter.

Method oneCold disassembly

When disassembling smaller bearings, you can gently tap the side of the bearing ferrule through a suitable punch to remove it from the shaft. A better way is to use a mechanical puller.

The grip should act on the inner ring or adjacent parts. If the shaft shoulder and bearing seat hole shoulder reserve grooves that can accommodate the pull of the puller, the disassembly process can be simplified.

In addition, some threaded holes are processed at the position of the hole shoulder to facilitate the bolts to eject the bearing.

The force required for large and medium-sized bearings is usually greater than that provided by mechanical tools.

Therefore, it is recommended to use hydraulic booster tools or oiling methods, or both. This means that oil holes and oil tanks need to be designed on the shaft.

Method twoThermal disassembly

When disassembling needle roller bearings or the inner rings of NU, NJ, and NUP cylindrical roller bearings, the thermal disassembly method is suitable. Two commonly used heating tools: heating ring and adjustable induction heater.

Heating rings are usually used to install and remove the inner rings of small and medium-sized bearings of the same size. The heating ring is made of light alloy. The heating ring is radially slotted and equipped with an electrically insulated handle.

If you often disassemble the inner rings of different diameters, it is recommended to use a debuggable induction heater.

These heaters can quickly heat the inner ring without heating the shaft.

When disassembling the inner ring of a large cylindrical roller bearing, some special fixed induction heaters can be used.

2Remove the bearing mounted on the conical shaft diameter.

You can use a mechanical or hydraulic booster puller to pull the inner ring, and the small bearing can be removed. Some pullers are equipped with spring-operated arms. Using this kind of puller with a self-centering design can simplify the procedure and avoid damage to the journal. If the puller claw cannot be used on the inner ring, the bearing should be removed through the outer ring or by means of a puller combined with a puller.

When using the oiling method, the disassembly of medium and large bearings will be safer and simpler. This method infuses hydraulic oil between the two conical mating surfaces through the oil hole and the oil tank under high pressure. The friction between the two surfaces is greatly reduced, and the axial force that separates the bearing and the shaft diameter is generated.

3Remove the bearing on the fixing sleeve.

For small bearings installed on the straight shaft of the tightening sleeve, a hammer can be used to strike the small steel blocks that evenly act on the end face of the bearing inner ring to remove them. Before that, the tightening sleeve lock nut needs to be loosened several times.

For small bearings mounted on the stepped shaft of the fixing sleeve, a hammer can be used to strike the small end face of the locking nut of the fixing sleeve through a special sleeve to remove it. Before that, the tightening sleeve lock nut needs to be loosened several times.

For bearings installed on the stepped shaft of the tightening sleeve, the use of hydraulic nuts can make the bearing disassembly easier. For this reason, a suitable stop device must be installed close to the piston of the hydraulic nut. The oiling method is a simpler method, but a tightening sleeve with an oil hole and an oil tank must be used.

4Remove the bearing on the withdrawal sleeve.

When removing the bearing on the withdrawal sleeve, the locking device (such as lock nut, end plate, etc.) must be removed. For small and medium-sized bearings, lock nuts, hook wrenches or impact wrenches can be used for disassembly.

For medium and large bearings installed on the withdrawal sleeve, hydraulic nuts can be easily disassembled. It is recommended to install a stop device behind the hydraulic nut at the shaft end. The stop device can prevent the return sleeve and the hydraulic nut from flying out of the shaft when the return sleeve is suddenly separated from the mating position.

Attention should also be paid when disassembling the bearing:

1. Be sure to check for cracks, sharp sources, fractures, fragments or deformation before disassembly

2.When using the press, all parts are stable and do not shake or tremble; when pressing the shaft, the center of the shaft must be aligned with the center of the hammer; do not grab the shaft by hand when using force; place a connecting plate to catch the shaft or bearing to avoid falling to the ground.

3. When using the puller, make sure that the jaw of the puller is firmly attached to the side of the bearing; align the end of the load bolt on the puller with the shaft; if the jaw becomes loose during operation, stop immediately, change the position and clamp firmly, and resume operation; if the bearing fails to prolapse after normal disassembly force is applied, do not apply excessive force to the puller and use other methods instead.

4. When using a professional wrench (removing the sleeve), please use a wrench with a lock nut of the right size; if the lock nut is too tight, do not use a hammer to strike the handle of the wrench.

5. When using the bearing oiling method, slowly inject oil, and when the inner ring moves axially, stop oiling immediately; taper-hole bearings may fly away from the bearing at high speed. Be sure to install a nut at the end of the shaft to prevent it from flying away.

6. When using induction heating equipment, do not place flammable materials (such as oil or gas) near the work area; when reusing bearings or when inspection is required, do not heat more than 120; do not touch the heated bearings or surrounding parts without gloves; after heating, immediately remove the bearing (inner ring) from the shaft; if the bearing inner ring is difficult to move when disassembled early, stop the operation, reheat the bearing (inner ring), and then continue the operation.
